Week 1
All About Me
Our first theme is All About Me! It is a fun way for the children to learn about each other.

| The class created a graph of the boys and girls in our class. We found out that we have one more boy then girls in Ganon. |

| The children did an 'I can" dictation. We found out that there are many talents in our class. |
Names, Names, Names
The children are very interested in each others names. They are trying to read the names of their classmates and have had a lot of discussions about each other's names. Following the child's lead we have done name songs, games, sorting and graphing activities with names.
Judaics
Welcome to our Ganon Judaics class!
It was wonderful to meet so many of you Wednesday night and look forward to
spending the year with your child! Getting to know our class routine and
introducing some new ideas was and will continue to be our focus for the first
few weeks of school.
Hebrew language is a core part of
our program. We integrate Hebrew Language throughout the day and throughout
each unit and topic we discuss. Your child knows that we sit down on the
‘shatiach’ – rug, and when they are thirsty, they ask for ‘mayim’ – water. We
use many other words throughout the day/week such as shulchan, keeseh, chalav,
aron, imma, abba, which the children will pick up as time goes on. Our
Hebrew/Jewish name was our topic of games, music activities and discussions.
Each day we spend a few minutes as a group
singing T’fillah, prayer, songs. We start off with Tzedakah (thanks to all who
have sent in their penny supply) each day and talked about what we will do with
the money when the Tzedakah box gets full. We also shared some books on the
topic that the children enjoyed. I’d like to recommend a book (that I enjoyed
as a child) The Very Best Place for a
Penny by Dina Rosenfeld.
Although
I spend a short amount of time each day with the children, we accomplish a
great deal and I look forward to sharing the year with your family. Shabbat
