Observational Drawing Outdoors

 We began our morning meeting in the Outdoor Classroom by the children quietly listening to the sounds around them.  Children discussed the sounds that they heard.  Then the children were given clipboards and told to draw something that they found interesting to look at in the space.

Children then sat at the picnic table and shared their drawings with the group.

News from Morah Schusterman - August 28

Shofar. What comes to mind when you hear that word?

Ganon children explored the shofar this week from many different angles.

The shofar is an instrument made from a horn of certain animals, usually a ram.

Touching a raw horn vs. a polished and finished one, was an interesting experience. Then seeing the live animal from which a shofar comes made it all more exciting! We now have a new toy in our class which some of the children love, soft cuddly stuffed rams with curled horns.

It's almost Rosh Hashana and we are all wishing each other a Shanah Tovah, a good year. Ganon children each received one letter to glue our paper mosaic squares. The combination of their letters and work will wish all who pass by in the hallway a good and sweet year!

Each day I come, jobs are given out and everyone has been extremely responsible about doing their part. We have one child giving out the tzedakah pennies, one who walks around with the tzedakah box, two who hold the Torah, and of course on Fridays we have an Ima and Abba, mom and dad.

Shofar

Rabbi Gluck visits our class daily at lunch to blow the shofar. Morah Schusterman is doing many activities about the shofar during Judaics time. One favorite activity is when the children take turns hiding and looking for the shofar. 

Annual Ram Visit

Today the ram visited our school.  It was such a great experience for the children to get to learn about rams, ask questions and even pet a ram.  This is an annual experience at our school.  It was nice for the children who have been at our school for a while to get to tell the new children about the ram visit.
