Creating our own Paint Colors

     Our class has been discussing the colors of Fall.  This lead to a discussion of yellow.  We discussed if all things that are yellow are exactly the same color.  We examined leaves and the children discussed that there are many shades of yellow.  One child explained, "Some yellow is very light and some is dark yellow."  Another child said, "Yes, some yellow is kind of green."  The next child said, "You know how some yellow is kind of brown.  The leaf is a brown yellow." 

     We then looked at paint samples and compared the many shades of yellow. The children thought some of the names for the shades of yellow were funny.  The class then created our own paint colors to match the colors of the leaves.  It took a lot of experimenting and mixing colors until we found the exact shade that we wanted.  Once we were happy with the color then the children took turns naming the paint color. 

 

 

Nature Walk

 

We walked around the school and gathered beautiful Fall leaves.

 

We discussed the colors, sizes and shapes of the leaves.

 

We tried to find newly fallen leaves that weren't all dried up.

 

Then we returned to our play ground and created these beautiful collages using contact paper.

 

We enjoy watching the light shine through our collage on the window.

Fall Trees

Directions:  Use the materials on the table to create a Fall Tree. 

It is such a treat to see their creativity and problem solving at work.

Leaf Man

The class read the book Leaf Man.  Then the children created their own Leaf People.

 

 

Rainbow Day

Rainbow Day

 

 

 

Counting beads to make a rainbow.  Each color needs 10 beads.  One child commented "This is a lot of counting!  10 and then 10 and then 10.  We may have 100 when we finish all the colors."

 

It was fun to see so many children dressed in rainbow colors.  These two girls were adorable. 

 

 

The children created rainbow dictations about themselves.  We still have a few to finish and then we will display them in out class.

 

 

These rainbow were fun to make.  The children really had to pay attention to the sizes of the strips to get them in the right order from shortest to longest.

 

 

The children made rainbow necklaces.  It is a good activity to improve fine motor development.  Many children decided to make patterns or sort beads while they created their necklace.

 

 

The children created rainbows with so many different materials in the classroom.

 

 

This activity was a little science rainbow fun.  The children used milk, dishwashing soap, water and food coloring to make colorful designs.

 

 

We ended our Rainbow Day by crawling under our own rainbow.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Math Fun

Math is a part of much of what we do in Ganon. 

The children are constantly counting, sorting and comparing items.
