Compliments for Ganon

Our class has received so many compliments this week.  I just wanted to share some of them...

"what a good job walking quietly in the hall"

"I love how everyone in Ganon is so busy working and playing during Centers Time"

"what a well behaved and calm class this is during circle time"

"what a smart group of children"

"wow, this class gets excited about learning"

"I can't believe how much they know about butterflies."

I give the class a smile and a thumbs up every time Ganon receives a compliment from a visitor to our classroom or someone in the hallway. It has been a week filled with smiles and thumbs up!

Chrysalises

This week our caterpillars began to molt (shed its skin).  Then we were able to watch as several of our caterpillars entered the pupa stage and formed a chrysalis. Finally it was time to transfer the chrysalises to the butterfly garden container. It was a little nerve wrecking for the teachers to transfer such fragile things but we did it. We should have painted lady butterflies in 7 - 10 days.

Dreams for our Garden

This afternoon, the Ganon children were given an opportunity to draw their dream for our school garden. The children decided which items they would prefer for us to plant. There were many different opinions on what to plant from watermelon to peppers to flowers.

Gardening Day 2

Today we did some planting inside the classroom. We planted radish, onion and carrot seeds.  We replanted some onions that we picked from the garden outside.  We planted grass seed that we hope will grow and then we can cut it with scissors. We also planted some wildflower seeds.
Then we went outside to continue to pull all the weeds from the garden. We have one giant root that a strong dad has offered to remove for us.  Then we will be ready to add the soil and get started planting seeds.

Gardening Day 1

Today the Ganon children (and 2 wonderful parent helpers) began to prep the garden beds for the Early Childhood Garden. It was a morning of pulling up weeds. The raised beds that we will be using have not been used in four years and so we had a lot of weeds to pull. It was hard but fun work and a great way to enjoy the beautiful weather. Today's favorite discoveries were worms and onions.

In other exciting news, our caterpillars are now in the Pupa stage snd have formed chrysalises. We will be moving them into the butterfly garden container in the next couple of days where they will turn into butterflies.
