August Judaic Update

We started Ganon Judaics with a mini unit about the Creation of the world.  First the children listened to a felt board story about what was created on each day.  Then they worked together to make their own collaborative mural using cotton, stickers, and unique drawings of flowers, trees, birds, fish, and animals.  Our mini creation unit culminated with talking about the seventh day of creation, when Hashem rested and we celebrate Shabbat. The children created a class tablecloth to be used at weekly Shabbat parties and matching challah covers to take home.  Next, everyone gave different ideas of things that make Shabbos special (challah, grape juice, fancy table, etc.) and everyone agreed that Shabbat is a special day.  Each week, (as part of the Havadala cermomy) it's customary to smell good smelling spices at the conclusion of Shabbat to make us less sad that Shabbat is over.  During circle time, we passed around a spice bottle filled with a mystery spice.  Some children recognized it as cinnamon, and most  agreed it had a yummy smell.  Then the children made their own mini- spice containers to take home.  Next week, we'll begin our Rosh Hashana unit.

Water Play Day

Our class celebrated the end of the summer with a water play day. 

 It was beautiful weather and a really fun day.
