Mat Man

A foundational piece of the handwriting program we use at HHAI, Handwriting Without Tears, is incorporating discussions and activities involving Mat Man.  Mat Man is a character made up of pieces children use to form letters (big lines, little lines, big curves little curves, along with other boy parts (eyes, nose, hair, etc.).  Mat Man helps the children understand and demonstrate body awareness.

We created Mat Man as a Large Group.

Next, the children described Mat Man as I drew him on the board.

Then the children drew their own Mat Man on dry erase boards.

Finally, the children drew this month's self portrait.
