Kindergarteners for the Day

The Oak class spent the day as Kindergarteners.  The children had the opportunity to experience many of the activities that the HHAI  Kindergarteners do daily.

The class began their Kindergarten adventure in the library with a story time by Mrs. Berg.  They even met the library mascot, Maizela the mouse.  Mrs. Berg also explained that in Kindergarten, the children get to borrow books to take home and read.  Many of the children found this to be very exciting news.

After the library, the children headed straight to the Kindergarten classroom.  They received a warm welcome by Mrs. Gough.  She gave them a tour of the classroom. She also shared about some of the important work that the Kindergarten students do.  She showed some of the children's writing and math work.  The Oak children were impressed.  Mrs. Gough also explained about the different class jobs.  The consensus was that the Bunny helper was the best job.

Mrs. Gough ended the tour at the provocation table. She explained about the current project study in the class.  The children are researching and learning about praying mantises.  The project came about after a praying mantis was found outside of the school.  That praying mantis is now living in the Kindergarten classroom.  The class named her Charlie.  The Oak class were very interested and want to come back to visit Charlie, the praying mantis soon.

Once the tour was complete, the children enjoyed some free play time in the classroom.  The children were busy and would have happily played all day.

After free play was lunch.  I forgot to take pictures because we were too busy chatting about how much fun Kindergarten is. A visit to the big kids play ground happened after lunch.  It was a blast!

The next stop was the elementary science room for several experiments.  Mrs. Gough planned some very interesting and interactive experiments.

Then, we returned to the Kindergarten room for some time with Bun Bun.  Bun Bun is the Kindergarten class pet, a sweet boy bunny.  Mrs. Gough told the class some facts about bunnies and a short lesson on how to take care of a bunny.  Each child got a chance to pet Bun Bun.

The final Kindergarten activity was an engaging parsha story with Morah Schusterman.

It was a great day and I am pretty sure every single child would start Kindergarten tomorrow if they could!  I am not ready for them to leave the Oak class just yet! We still have a lot more Oak fun to have before they become big Kindergarteners!
