Planting day has finally arrived! Peuton, Ganon and Kindergarten all gathered in the courtyard to plant the garden together. Seven Ganon parents even joined us and helped a bunch with the planting event. We planted sunflowers, pumpkins, snap peas, peppers, lettuce, cucumbers and many herbs. The children also painted sticks that we will use as plant markers.

Gardening with Peuton
Today was our last day to prep the garden beds. We continued to pull weeds and we used shovels to break up the soil. Peuton joined us today as we worked together. Next step is adding a combination of compost and soil. Then finally we will add the seeds.
8th Grade boys are so strong!
As we spend time in the courtyard gardening, we get more and more in love with the space. Miss Gribbins, Mrs. Ashley and I have dreams of creating an outdoor classroom out there. We decided that having more grass would make the space more inviting. We also thought that moving the rock to a circular pattern and creating a rock garden would allow for wonderful reggio inspired activities.
We had one problem...rocks are heavy and there are lot to move. Luckily, the 8th graders returned from Israel just in time to lend a hand. The 8th graders joined the Kindergarten and Ganon classes in the courtyard. They moved rock as the rest of us continued to pull weeds from the garden. The Ganon children were mesmerized by how strong and hard working the big boys were. It was so nice for all of us to be outside working together.
