Stringing pasta to make necklaces is a great fine motor activity.  Children can also practice patterning, sorting, and counting.

Have you been doing cooking projects at your house?

My daughter and I have been doing a lot of cooking together with our extra time at home.  We are trying different recipes and cooking techniques.  Here is an article about the benefits of cooking with children.

Yes/No Game

The Yes/No Game is a prereading/ beginning reading game that I like to play with children.  Two index cards or pieces of paper are needed for the game.  Write the word YES on one card/paper and NO on the other.  Before beginning the game, you introduce the words to the children (I.e. no begins with n).  The game is played by asking the child Yes and No questions.  The child holds up the word to answer the question. The game is fun, you can learn a little about your child, and they are learning to read.  :)
