Ice Bowling

The children's interest in ice found on the playground has led to an interesting study of ice.  The children have experimented with ice, painted with ice, and even built with ice.  During one of the ice activities, two children kept trying to make their ice round like a ball.  This led to the idea of ice bowling, an activity that we did in Ganon a couple of years ago.  The warmer weather was a bit of a disappointment (although we were happy for some playtime on the playground) because it became too warm to freeze things outside.  We had to resort to our second option and use the freezer.  We filled balloons with water and left them in the freezer overnight.  The next morning we were happy to find the balloons were solid ice.  The children worked together to create a bowling alley with blocks and a tablecloth.  Since today our middle school buddies were visiting, we decided to have them bowl with us.  Ice bowling plus middle school buddies made for an awesome time.

If you want to get your child talking about school, ask them about ice bowling.  They should all have a story to tell about the fun event.
