The Ganon class is very interested in squirrels. We have squirrels that run around our playground and the children enjoy watching them. The squirrels often visit during our snack and lunch time. We have begun letting a few children go to the window to get a closer look. We have clipboards ready for observational drawings. We are also trying to get some photos of the playground squirrels. The discussions of squirrels have also led to some discussions of chipmunks.
We created a chart of what we know about squirrels.
Next, we made a chart of what we want to learn about squirrels.
The children then drew squirrel pictures while observing photos and looking at pictures in books of squirrels.
After lunch, we read a story about squirrels and
recorded what we learned.
