Today, the Ganon children completed another STEM/STEAM challenge. Each child was given a plastic counting bear.
Their task was to create something to keep their bear dry during a rainstorm. The children were provided a variety of materials to use. Materials included paper plates, cupcake liners, paper hot dog holder, styrofoam, aluminum foil, foam rollers, popsicle sticks, craft foam, q-tips, and masking tape. Each child planned, created, and problem solved during the challenge.
Once the children were finished creating, we tested their creations/structures. The children simulated a rain storm by pouring a cup of water on to their creation.
The results varied. Some bears were soaked, some a little wet, and some remained dry.
| These four children cheered because their bears stayed dry! |
The children asked to do the activity again. Several of the children have plans for how to improve their structures next time.
