Mail Game

The Ganon children were introduced to the Mail Carrier game today in class.

First, each child chose a different classmate's name for which to create mail.  Then, they chose the paper and envelope that wanted to use to create their mail.  They used their chosen materials to write and draw mail for their friend.  Each child wrote their peer's name on the outside of the envelope.  Each child drew pictures on the paper to put inside the envelope.  Several children wrote (copied) messages on the paper.  Once they were finished, they folded the paper and put it inside the envelope.  Finally, each piece of mail was placed in the mailbag.

Later in the day, the class gathered on the carpet to play the mail game.  Each child took turns being the mail carrier and delivering the mail.  We said a chant while we played the game.

The class said:

Good morning Mail Carrier!

Your bag looks full I see.

I am looking for a letter.

Have you anything for me?

The mail carrier said:

Yes!  Here's a letter and a (air) hug too!

I have others for your neighbors, but nothing more for you.

The mail game was a fun way for children to practice writing letters, reading the names of the children in the class, and utilizing proper pencil grip while writing.  It also introduced the children to the materials in the Writing Center, which is a center that very few children have visited yet this year.
