This week, we began working in small groups. Small group time provides children an opportunity to work with fewer amount of children directly with a teacher. During this time, the groups will work on different developmental areas.
This is what Mrs. Mahern's small group did this week during their small group time.
Small Group 1
Monday, the children were introduced to their prekindergarten handwriting book and flip crayons. The children completed two pages while working on proper pencil grip with the crayons.
We worked on identifying the letters in our names and name writing on Wednesday.
The children received their journals on Thursday. They will work on them weekly. Today's journal assignment, draw something that makes you happy. The children drew gum ball machines, spiderman car, a mermaid, a Barbie, rainbows, and a cake. A few of the children labeled their drawings. The other children dictated what they wanted labeled.
We ended the week with some math activities. The children identified and put numbers from 1 - 6 in order. Then, they rolled the dice and counted out the many dinosaurs. Finally, they added the corresponding number to the amount of dinosaurs.
