Today was World Kindness Day. World Kindness Day 2024 is a global observance dedicated to promoting and celebrating acts of kindness. This day serves as a reminder of the positive impact that kindness can have on individuals, communities, and the world at large. It encourages people to perform intentional acts of kindness and foster a culture of compassion and generosity.
In honor of World Kindness Day, our entire school (from Seedling - 8th grade) are embracing our Jewish values of compassion and community and showing kindness in many different ways. The Oak class enjoyed participating and sharing kindness throughout our classroom and school.
The topic of kindness is something that we often revisit throughout the school year in our class. Social emotional learning is a key component of the Reggio Emilia approach, which inspires our teaching at Giving Tree Early Learning. Collaboration, communication, empathy, and positive relationships are the foundation of social emotional learning in the Reggio Emilia approach. Collaboration is children working together in groups to solve problems, negotiate, and practice empathy. Communication is children learning to listen to others, share their ideas, and respect different perspectives. Empathy is children learning to feel and show empathy for others. Positive relationships is children learning to establish and maintain meaningful relationships with peers and adults.
In the Oak class, we focus on kindness and how our actions and words can make others feel. Using nice words, offering assistance, and sharing are some of the ways that the Oak children exhibit kindness daily within our classroom community.
Here is how we celebrated World Kindness Day.
We created a list and drew pictures of ways to be kind.
| We heard that the notes made the elementary students smile. |
