Writing Words

The Ganon children have learned to write many of their upper case letters.  Last week, we began working on slide line letters, which is our final type of letter.  Slide line letters include: R, K, M, N, X, V, W, Y, and Z.

The children are displaying a greater interest in words.  We are beginning to put more attention on writing words.  The children understand that words are made up of letters.  Some of the children are beginning to apply their knowledge of letter sounds and are asking questions about how to spell words or trying to write words on their own.  We have increased our labeling of items within the classroom.  Additionally, children are encouraged to label their drawings.

The children created labels for the Vegetable Market in the Dramatic Play Center.

Letters were used to create words during Free Play.

These two girls worked to together to create 8 different words.

As an introduction to The Mitten, the children drew and
labeled pictures of the characters in the story.
