Ice School

Since the children have been interested in all things ice this past week, and today was very cold, our class froze things.  We filled balloons, egg cartons, cups, and containers with water and food coloring.  We then placed our assortment of items in the snow on the playground to freeze.  Tomorrow we plan to bring in the items for some frozen fun!

Today while walking to the carpet for our morning meeting, Ari asked that class if they would want to go to a school made of ice.  His questions led to a 20 minute discussion about that it would be like to go to a school made of ice.  We created a list of what it might be like to go to an ice school.  The children then drew pictures of what they thought an ice school would look like.

What if we went to a school made of ice?

Everyone would have to wear warm clothes.

It would be hard to write because you would have to wear gloves.

We could draw with ice pencils.

We could build with ice blocks and ice Legos.

We could go outside to play snowball fights and build snowmen.

We could ice skate in the room.

We could have hot chocolate for snack.

We could eat macaroni and cheese, chicken nuggets, and s’mores because they are hot.

We could listen to ice music.

We could sit in ice chairs.

We could build igloos.

We could have books made of ice.   The words would be carved in the ice.

We could play with ice animals.

We could have toy ice beds for the dolls.

We could have ice puzzles with pictures of ice mountains.

There would be an ice phone, ice computers, and an ice clock.

There could be light up ice on the ceiling for light bulbs.

We could paint with ice brushes.
