Small Group Week 8 - Ms. Alisa

With noticing the children's excitement about the story "The Very Hungry Caterpillar," we continued with the caterpillar theme and combined it with number learning and recognition. The children used their fine motor skills, counting skills, and numeracy skills this week to count how many squares were in the circles of the caterpillar. On Wednesday, the children started with the numbers 1-4 and every day the numbers will increase. The children counted the squares, as well as held up the correct number circle for each number!

This week, we have also used our fine motor skills to engage in play dough play with numbers. The children used their hands to manipulate play dough and create numbers out of it. The children were also asked to tell the teacher the number whenever they were handed a new number.

The last focus of the week was changing small group into large group with the entire class and playing the game splat. The children worked on their number indentifcation skills as well as gross motor skills during this time. The children were also able to learn from each other and count the dots independently to tell us what number they chose.

Standards:

M1.1: Demonstrate strong sense of counting

M1.2: Demonstrate understanding of written numerals

SE1.1: Demonstrate self awareness and confidence

APL2.1: Demonstrate development of flexible thinking skills during play
